One giant leap for the Nursery

Good day my friends and family. Thank you for taking the time to come back for an update. I love talking with individuals in an overall sense so if you’re willing to listen to me as I map out this new food adventure we are about to endeavor on, I will express the journey every step of the way. I have my Microgreen business plan in final edits as well as most of the background admin structure to assist us in the whole process. Not all sections even have anything in them yet as we haven’t begun, but the admin side of me had a lot of fun creating the templates. Content for social media is coming along and again, that is a fun task for my brain. Researching the best seeds, trays, lights, and such were exciting as well because it brings things into perspective of your daily, monthly, and yearly needs. And keeps you dreaming of what’s to come. I get that everybody doesn’t like to come up with their own logo, branding, website creation and social media accounts posts, but I do! My career prior was administration of other people’s businesses. Now its for me and my family business.  My dream is very big no doubt. We must start somewhere. I envision a house and a barn, animals, vegetables in the ground growing, microgreens and growing tools inside with a small storefront. A family business you can get to know and count on! A light went of inside sometime in the beginning of 2021 that growing is what makes me happy. No grumble, just an eagerness to get outside and my hands into dirt!! As I mentioned in my previous blog, Nyce Nursery would like to assist you in whatever stage you are in in your own yard and garden too when we have expanded. We will begin with Microgreens! What are Microgreens Julie? one might say. Microgreens are the first stages of growth in vegetable, leafy green and herb that are harvested just after the formation of cotyledons and the true leaves have developed. Everything that’s needed in that small growth is everything the plant needs to bring it to full maturity. Everything! Therefore, making them the most incredibly nutrient dense ingredient on the planet. They are different than sprouts as they do not incorporate the root in finished product. Nor grown in a air rated glass jar as microgreens are grown over coconut coir. We will have Pea, Sunflower, and Radish. Four others including Pac Choy, Broccoli, Cilantro, and Nasturtium in a slow-release manner over our first year. More to come in the 2nd year. You the consumer will have the access right on our website to order the subscription box weekly or monthly with a pay option right there! And we will deliver it to you here in Ucluelet and all the way to Tofino!! Once we can expand with need, we will become a part of Vancouver Islands Farmer Market Family. Moving into restaurants. School lunch programs is our final consumer goal. We want healthier younger generations my friends!! What do we do with Microgreens? is the next question I see often. My quick answer is anything you use salt and pepper or lettuce on. Long answer is meals such as smoothies, microgreen salads, sandwiches, poke bowls, charcuterie boards, over pastas, pizza, fish, and eggs. Additionally, smoothies are a great way to get this nutrition-dense ingredient into our littles without sacrificing taste. We understand this superfood is a new innovative vegetable and it will require education on the general, Nyce Nursery is excited for the opportunity. It is no secret that citizens need healthier local food options in our ever-changing world. Food that is drudging our systems down making them run ineffectively and fail continuously. Just not enough H20 ensures many things in our body run poorly during the day. We aren’t doctors friends, nor health experts, but we do know microgreens. Looking at the bigger picture we want to be a part of healthy eating food options that heal you from the inside out. Some credit Hippocrates for “Let food be thy medicine and let medicine be thy food”. True story though. Love you, Love each other. Talk soon, Julie and Steve

Hello friends, My name is Julie. My roots are deep within British Columbia's various terrains as I am Nisga'a and Snuneymuxw. I have 3 beautiful and amazing children. Steve and I live on the unceded and stolen lands of the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Nation on Vancouver Island (Ucluelet).  As I begin this journey of assisting more citizens to become Food Sovereign through various avenues I would like to share the seasons as we grow. I am self taught in this journey thus far, and been growing here 4 years. NN will grow leafy greens/microgreens/medicinal and non medicinal herbs & vegetables and teach along the way in our educational rooms. We want to build the relationship between you and the land again. We want to bridge the gap between new/well seasoned growers alike to becoming more food secure. If you know your way around the garden already or want to learn from the ground up (pun intended) We want to assist. Should you have no interest in doing the dirty work, you still deserve to eat locally grown nutrient packed food too right? We will have a store front to assist that individual too. There can be no comparison to a freshly picked cucumber and one wrapped in plastic we get at the grocery store. Maybe there's mobility issues and you just need the beds made and delivered to their forever home so you can get going, we're here for you! Perhaps you need us to come by for a consult or design advise, we are mobile too. Or to come by weekly/bi/monthly to tend to your yard, we can do that. Our outside areas from which we live should be giving us soo much more joy and use.  We want to assist there! Nyce Nursery will have seeds to fresh vegetable and everything in between to help your yard/garden! One day in the future we would like to donate to the low income as well as be a part of the local Food Banks. We want you eating healthier no matter what your background is or where you come from!! Healing one mind/gut at a time. We will be transparent, we will be there when we say we will be there and we can't wait to meet you. Love you new friends, I can't wait to be in a food growing structure creating and learning with you! Take care, stay safe and love each other, julie&steve
